19 Tips for Concrete Pump Truck Construction
Jan. 26, 2026
I. Pumping equipment should be placed at a certain distance from the edge of the foundation pit.
II. Concrete pump trucks must not use placing booms when wind force is greater than level six. In hot weather,
pipelines should be covered with wet burlap sacks or straw bales.
III. The pipeline layout for horizontal pumping must be reasonable. Pipelines and supports must be securely
fastened, and pipe joints must be reliably sealed.
IV. The aggregate size, cement grade, and mix proportions must meet the pumpability requirements of the
concrete pump. During pumping, the material in the hopper should be higher than the inlet height to prevent
air intake and injury.
V. It is strictly forbidden to directly connect vertical pipelines to the pump outlet. A horizontal pipe of at least
10m in length should be connected to the front end of the vertical pipe. A check valve should be installed near
the pump on the horizontal pipe. When laying downward-sloping pipelines, a section of horizontal pipe should
be connected to the lower end, with a length at least five times the difference in slope. Otherwise, methods
such as pipe bends should be used to increase resistance. If the incline is significant, an exhaust valve should
be installed at the top of the ramp if necessary to facilitate venting.
VI. The parking brake and locking brake of the pumping equipment should be used simultaneously, and the
tires should be wedged tightly. Cooling water supply should be normal, the water tank should be full of clean
water, the hopper should be free of debris, and all lubrication points should be properly lubricated.
VII. Prepare cleaning pipes, cleaning supplies, ball catchers, and related equipment. Before operating the pump
truck, the pipes must be lubricated with cement mortar prepared according to regulations, and unauthorized
personnel must stay away from the pipes.
VIII. The outriggers should be fully extended and secured. The boom should not be started before it is securely
secured. The boom can only be rotated after it has been raised off the support. The boom should be extended
sequentially. It is strictly forbidden to use the boom to lift or drag objects.
IX. When the boom is fully extended and secured, it is strictly forbidden to move the vehicle body. If movement
is necessary during operation, the upper section of the boom should be folded and secured, and the moving
speed should not exceed 10 km/h. The placing boom must not use piping exceeding the specified diameter,
and any connected flexible hoses must be secured with a safety harness to prevent slippage.
10. All instruments and indicator lights should be monitored at all times. Any abnormalities should be adjusted
or addressed promptly. If a blockage occurs in the conveying pipeline, reverse pumping should be performed
to return the concrete pump to the hopper. If necessary, the pipe should be disassembled to clear the blockage.
11. Pumping should be continuous. If a pause is necessary, pumping should be performed every 5-10 minutes
(3-5 minutes in winter). If pumping is to be resumed after a prolonged stop, reverse pumping once or twice,
then pump forward. A certain amount of concrete should be maintained in the hopper during pumping; it must
not be sucked into the hopper.
12. All operating switches, adjusting handles, handwheels, control levers, and cocks should be reset. The hydraulic
system should be unloaded.
13. Move both pistons to the cleaning chamber and apply lubricating oil.
14. The water tank should be kept full of clean water. If the water becomes cloudy and contains a large amount
of sand, it should be inspected and addressed promptly.
15. All bolts on the pumping equipment should be tightened, pipe joints should be securely sealed, and
protective devices should be complete and reliable.
16. All operating switches, high-speed handles, handwheels, control levers, and cocks should be in the correct
positions. The hydraulic system should be normal and leak-free.
17. When the pumping system is under pressure, no delivery pipes or hydraulic pipelines must be opened. The
safety valves of the hydraulic system must not be adjusted arbitrarily, and the accumulator can only be filled
with nitrogen.
18. After the concrete pump has finished operating, all concrete in the hopper and pipelines must be discharged.
Then, the concrete pump, hopper, and pipelines should be cleaned. When flushing the pipelines with
compressed air, no one should stand within 10 meters in front of the pipeline outlet, and a metal mesh basket
or similar device should be used to collect the flushed foam rubber and gravel particles.
19. It is strictly forbidden to flush the placing boom piping with compressed air. The folding and retraction of
the placing boom should be carried out in sequence.
