Key Considerations for Concrete Pump Truck Selection

May. 18, 2026

  1. Building Type and Structure
The performance of concrete pump trucks varies by model. When selecting a model, in addition to the concrete pouring volume, attention should also be paid to the building type and structure, construction technical requirements, site conditions and surrounding environment. Generally, the main performance parameters of the selected concrete pump truck shall match or slightly exceed construction requirements. Excessive capacity leads to low utilization rate, while insufficient capacity fails to meet construction demands and accelerates equipment wear and tear.
  2. Construction Adaptability
Concrete pump trucks feature high flexibility. Higher boom height delivers greater pouring height and placing radius, resulting in stronger construction adaptability. Therefore, high‑boom concrete pump trucks are preferred in construction. Pump trucks with a boom length of 28–36 m are mainstream products in the market, accounting for approximately 75% of total sales, and long‑boom models are becoming primary construction equipment. In addition, restricted by the load‑bearing capacity of the vehicle chassis, pump trucks with a boom height over 42 m incur a sharp rise in costs and are limited by on‑site space, so they are rarely adopted.
  3. Construction Workload
The number of required concrete pump trucks can be calculated based on the concrete pouring volume, actual delivery capacity of a single unit and construction working hours. For projects with a one‑time large‑volume concrete pumping task, a certain number of standby pump trucks should be reserved besides calculated quantity. Moreover, a concrete batching plant with an annual output of 100,000–150,000 cubic meters needs to be equipped with 2 to 3 concrete pump trucks.
  4. Product Configuration
High‑standard requirements shall be adhered to when selecting concrete pump trucks in terms of product performance. High‑value pump trucks demand correspondingly high manufacturing standards. Both internal and appearance quality of core components shall be compatible with the overall high‑grade positioning of the whole vehicle.
  5. Power System
Concrete pump trucks adopt full‑hydraulic technology. It is necessary to evaluate the advancement of hydraulic technology and quality of hydraulic components. As power is supplied by the engine, the performance and quality of the engine, as well as the performance, load‑bearing capacity and quality of the vehicle chassis shall also be taken into consideration.
  6. Operating System
The control system of concrete pump trucks includes manual, wired and wireless modes. Wired control is convenient and flexible; wireless remote control enables long‑distance operation. Manual operation serves as a backup in case of circuit failure.
  7. After‑sales Service
As special vehicles, concrete pump trucks require strict standards for safety, mechanical performance, manufacturer’s after‑sales service and spare parts supply due to their special functions. Failure to meet these standards will delay construction progress and lead to severe consequences once malfunctions occur.
