Concrete Pump Truck Parking & Setup Guidelines: Safety Rules You Must Know

Apr. 17, 2026

# Concrete Pump Truck Parking & Setup Guidelines: Safety Rules You Must Know There’s more to parking a concrete pump truck properly than you might think. Follow these critical rules to ensure safe operation and prevent accidents.Concrete Pump Truck Parking1. The parking area for the pump truck should be as open as possible to allow full extension of all outriggers. Check for surrounding obstacles to prevent the boom or outriggers from hitting buildings or other objects. The operator should have a clear view of the entire work area. If the operator cannot see the full work zone or judge the distance between extended parts and nearby objects accurately, a dedicated signal person must be assigned. Never operate the equipment in violation of regulations or leave it running unattended. 2. Use warning devices to separate the work area from traffic and pedestrians as required for safe operation to avoid accidents. 3. The pump truck must be parked on firm, stable ground to maintain stability. Keep the pump truck away from pits, embankments, ditches and similar areas, as ground under outrigger pressure may collapse and compromise stability. Maintain a safe distance from trenches, wells, slopes, excavated surfaces, power cables and other hazards during operation. Basic principles for supporting: (1) The distance between the support surface and the trench shall be at least twice the depth of the trench. (2) The support surface must be level. If located on a slope or uneven ground, a level platform shall be excavated for support. Warning: Improper parking can cause the pump truck to become unstable or even tip over! 4. When parking on a slope, place wheel chocks behind the tires. Release the parking brake, let the vehicle roll slowly toward the chocks. Once the tires rest firmly on the chocks, engage the parking brake, secure the chocks, then extend the outriggers. 5. The pump truck should normally be parked horizontally. Level the truck by adjusting the outriggers. 6. Always park on solid ground to ensure stability. Outrigger ground pressure can reach up to 26 kg/cm². If the ground is not sufficiently firm, cross-laid wooden mats or steel pads must be placed under the outriggers. 7. Keep the pump truck away from pits, embankments, ditches and similar unstable areas. Ground collapse under outrigger pressure can cause instability and tipping. 8. During concrete placement, constantly inspect and adjust the outriggers if necessary. Adjustment reduces torsion caused by the boom movement in different positions, ensures outriggers remain on firm ground, and maintains overall vehicle stability. 9. Maintain a safe operating distance from cranes, buildings and other obstacles. Extra caution is required near power lines to protect personnel on the pump truck and those using connected equipment (remote controls, end hoses, etc.). Keep the work area at least 5 meters away from power lines. 10. Wind speed requirement: Do not operate the placing boom when wind speed exceeds Grade 6 (approximately 13.8 m/s). 11. Keep the pump truck level during operation (maximum allowable inclination: 3°). Warning: Excessive inclination can overload the boom slewing mechanism and reduce vehicle stability. Caution: When setting outriggers, avoid body entrapment between outriggers and other objects. 12. No personnel are allowed in the operating area of the placing boom. 13. All outriggers must be fully extended and properly set during support. Caution: Never deploy the placing boom until all four outriggers are securely positioned. 14. Operate the boom only after outriggers are properly set. Conversely, fully retract and secure the boom before retracting the outriggers.
